Privacy Policy
How Blubook uses personal information, who it is shared with, and the choices available to you.
1. Who we are
Blubook Technologies Limited (Blubook, we, us) is responsible for the personal information used to operate Blubook and this website. Contact us about privacy or your data at hello@blubook.app.
This policy covers the Blubook apps, including Blubook Network Beta, and blubook.app. Features vary by app version and account type. The Network Beta supports professional networking, messaging and event coordination; it does not process payments, hold funds or provide withdrawals.
2. Information we use
- Account and profile: name, email, account identifiers, sign-in provider, verification status, and information you add such as phone number, age confirmation or date of birth, profession, instruments, skills, biography, business details, profile photo, portfolio and social links.
- Networking and content: contacts and connection requests, group membership, messages, attachments, photos, videos, voice notes, posts, ratings, recommendations, reports, and your privacy and notification choices.
- Events and professional activity: opportunities, availability, applications, agreed fees, booking details, venues, agreements and documents you choose to provide. Where payment features are available outside the Network Beta, we also use transaction references, payment status, invoices and payout-account information.
- Location: your chosen city, region, postcode, travel preferences and event locations. If you permit device-location access, location coordinates may be used for nearby results and location features. You can turn off permission in your device settings.
- Device contacts: if you choose contact matching and grant permission, the app reads contact details on your device and sends hashed phone numbers to our matching service to find other Blubook users. A hash is a transformed identifier; it is not a guarantee of anonymity.
- Technical and testing information: IP address, device and app identifiers, device model, operating system, app version, feature-use events, performance information, crash reports and diagnostic logs. Firebase analytics and crash reporting may associate these records with your Blubook user ID. Apple also provides TestFlight feedback and testing information.
- Support: information you include when contacting us, reporting content or requesting help. Other users may supply information about you through invitations, bookings, recommendations, messages or reports.
3. Why we use information
We use account, profile, content and activity information to provide the service you request: signing you in, displaying profiles, connecting users, delivering messages, organising events and managing account settings. This processing is necessary to perform our agreement with you.
We use technical records, reports and relevant account activity for our legitimate interests in securing Blubook, preventing abuse, investigating problems, supporting users and improving reliability. We consider the effects on your rights when relying on these interests. Usage analytics help us understand which features work and where people encounter problems.
We rely on consent where required, including for optional marketing and device access where applicable. You can withdraw consent for future processing. We may also process information to meet legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Required account information is needed to provide an account; optional profile fields and device permissions can be left unset, although related features may then be unavailable.
4. What other people can see
Your profile visibility and sharing choices affect discovery. Profile information, professional details, portfolio links, enabled social links, ratings and recommendations may be visible to other users or through public profile links. Group members can see content shared in their group. Relevant participants can see information shared for event and booking coordination.
Account information is not intended to be a public directory of email addresses, dates of birth or home addresses. However, information you put in your biography, messages, documents or posts is shared with that content's audience. Recipients can save or forward content, and changing visibility cannot recall copies they already hold. Avoid sharing information you do not want that audience to receive.
5. Service providers and other recipients
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: authentication, database and file storage, backend services, notifications, analytics and crash diagnostics.
- Vercel: website hosting and delivery, including technical request logs.
- Apple: TestFlight distribution and feedback, Apple sign-in where used, push delivery and Apple platform services. See TestFlight & Privacy.
- LiveKit: delivery of audio/video calls where available, including connection information and media needed for the call.
- Email delivery providers: account verification, security and service messages, including SendGrid where used.
- Stripe: payment and payout services in versions where these features are enabled. The Network Beta does not ask you to complete Stripe payout onboarding or make payments in the app.
We may share relevant information with professional advisers, authorities or other parties where needed for legal obligations, safety or claims. If the business is transferred, relevant data may transfer with it, subject to applicable privacy protections. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising that tracks you across other companies' apps and websites.
6. International processing
Service providers may process information outside the UK, including in the EEA and United States. Where a transfer requires additional protection under applicable law, safeguards such as adequacy arrangements or approved contractual terms are required. Contact us for details of the providers and safeguards relevant to your information.
7. How long we keep information
Account information and content are kept while needed to operate your account and the features you use. Retention also depends on whether information is part of a shared conversation, an ongoing booking, a support case, a safety investigation or a legal record.
Requesting account deletion removes account access and starts the deletion process. The current app schedules profile anonymisation after 90 days. That schedule does not mean every copy of every record disappears at that time: shared messages, attachments, booking records and records needed for disputes, security or legal obligations may remain. Contact us to request deletion of associated content or an earlier review of a particular record.
Inactive groups may be removed from public search without deleting the history available to members. Timed event chats and optional archives have their own expiry settings. Technical logs, backups and provider records follow the relevant operational retention schedules; we retain records only while needed for their purpose or applicable obligations.
8. Your choices and rights
You can edit profile details and available privacy settings in Blubook, and manage contacts, camera, microphone, photos, location and notification permissions in your device settings. Essential account and security messages may still be sent when necessary.
You may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict your information, obtain a portable copy, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent. These rights depend on the circumstances and applicable law. Use the available account export/deletion controls or email hello@blubook.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting. Do not send your password or identity documents in an initial email.
You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or to your local data-protection authority.
9. Security, device storage and children
We use access controls, protected sign-in storage and encrypted network connections to help protect information. No service can guarantee complete security. Messages and uploads are stored to provide the service; this policy does not promise that all content is end-to-end encrypted.
The apps and website use local storage and related technology for functions such as sign-in, preferences and reliable operation. Third-party services may use their own storage technologies. Blubook is intended for people aged 18 or over. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal information.
10. Policy updates
We may update this policy as features or practices change. The date above identifies the current version. Where required, we will give additional notice or request consent before using information for a new purpose.
